Over the last several years, the GBC’s Preparing for the Future Workforce Development Initiative has identified needed changes required to build a strong, regional, workforce ecosystem and has been actively working on solutions. Apprenticeships have been proven as effective recruiting, training and retaining tools worldwide. Employer awareness and engagement is key to their success so the Preparing for the Future Workforce Development Initiative is announcing the first segment of the Apprenticeship Awareness Campaign focused on the construction industry. Additional sessions on Healthcare and IT/Cyber will be announced soon.
While the construction industry has long been a successful implementer of apprenticeship programs, myths and misunderstandings prevent many employers from reaping benefits from them. The Preparing for the Future Workforce Development Initiative has worked with subject matter experts from the region’s build environment to present a series of on-line sessions to build awareness and encourage the adoption of apprenticeship programs into the region’s construction workforce ecosystem.
These complimentary sessions have been designed to speak specifically to construction industry employers and where approaches and information differs, have “break out” sessions for union contractors and merit shops.
Representatives from the MD Department of Labor, regional agencies, and industry experts will be in attendance to share information and answer questions.
